Much Too Much - call for art
“The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.” -Gandhi
Much Too Much is an art project created to give voice to artists making work that calls attention to the effect of overconsumption on both people and the planet. m2m will feature a diverse collection of art practices and ideas on the concept of ‘too much’ in our society. Its aim is to create a platform on which artists share work and ideas. We hope to make connections and inspire action in communities large and small.
Selected work will be featured on the Much too Much instagram - @m2martproject with information about each artist’s process. The project may grow to include other possibilities, such as a website, gallery exhibits, and artist interviews. Much too Much is an open call for all artists addressing these themes in their work. We seek submissions from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to create an inclusive art community. All media is welcome and encouraged.

Much too Much is open to broad interpretation of the topic. One artist may address consumerism by only creating ephemeral art, while another builds sculptures out of trash. The proliferation of “stuff” can be literal, such as micro plastics in the oceans, or virtual, like the perpetual bombardment of images and information streaming through our screens. Overconsumption can be explored on a personal level, such as compulsive shopping and overeating, or on a global scale such as pollution and dangerous work environments caused by mass production.
What is your most pressing concern about overconsumption?
How do these concerns affect your art practice?
“It’s the little things citizens do. That's what will make the difference.” -Wangari Maathai
